Eases bruising pain and heavy menstrual flow

Properties

NeutralNeutral botanicalSweet, Bitter

What it does

Lamiophlomis stops the pain and swelling of physical trauma and the cramping of heavy menstrual periods. In TCM, it moves stagnant blood and stops bleeding, which is why it works on both sprains and difficult cycles. Originally a Tibetan medicine standard, it broke into Chinese pharmacopeia. Standardized tablets called Du Yi Wei Pian are used in Chinese hospitals for post-trauma recovery.

How to take it

Capsule

Standardized Du Yi Wei tablets are typically dosed at 0.4–0.8g three times daily for orthopedic or menstrual support. Decoction (3–9g raw) used in formula.

Look for hospital-grade Du Yi Wei tablets, not raw bulk herb

Safety

  • Toxic. Stay within practitioner-prescribed doses
  • Skip during pregnancy. Strong blood-moving action
  • May increase bleeding risk with anticoagulants
  • Stop use if you develop palpitations, dizziness, or rash
  • Talk to your doctor before starting, especially if you take medication

Where it comes from

Common lamiophlomis grows on the Tibetan plateau above 3,000 meters. Its Chinese name Dú Yī Wèi means 'unique single flavor,' a poetic nod to its solo importance in Tibetan medicine. The plant entered Chinese pharmacopeia in the 20th century after Tibetan practitioners shared its post-trauma uses. Du Yi Wei Pian, the standardized tablet, is now common in Chinese orthopedic recovery and gynecological practice.
