玉屏風散 · yù píng fēng sǎn

A classical immunity blend for people who catch every cold going around.

Think of this as TCM's classical answer for the person who seems to catch every cold that comes through. It pairs astragalus with two supporting herbs to rebuild qi and reinforce what TCM calls the body's surface defenses, the layer that fends off wind and weather. Practitioners reach for it when someone sweats easily, feels drafty in normal rooms, or bounces from one minor illness to the next.

Jade Windscreen is sold ready-made as Jade Screen Teapills (玉屏風丸).

Standard dose: 8 pills, 3 times a day.

Safety

  • Designed for the pattern of weak surface defenses with easy sweating and frequent colds. It's not the right pick during an active cold or flu with fever and sore throat. Different formulas handle those.
  • If you take immunosuppressants or have an autoimmune condition, talk to a practitioner first. Astragalus can stimulate parts of the immune system.
