Jade Windscreen

玉屏風散 · yù píng fēng sǎn

A classical immunity blend for people who catch every cold going around.

What it's for

Think of this as TCM's classical answer for the person who seems to catch every cold that comes through. In TCM, sudden colds and drafty chills are grouped under 'wind,' and this formula rebuilds the qi that normally guards against it, energy that circulates just under your skin. Practitioners reach for it when someone sweats easily, feels drafty in normal rooms, or bounces from one minor illness to the next.

Signs this formula is a fit

At least 2 of the 3 main signs below should sound like you. Works as prevention, so give it weeks, not days.

Main signs

  • You catch every cold going around

immune system feels porous, slow to bounce back

  • Sweating easily with no effort

clammy in cool rooms even when you're sitting still

  • Drafts and AC feel like a threat

scarf weather when others are fine

Extra signs

  • Pale, shiny complexion
  • Allergies or hayfever that flare with weather changes
  • A tongue that looks paler than usual for you, with a thin white coating

Signs it isn't

  • You're in the middle of a cold or flu right now
  • You feel hot and dry, not draft-sensitive
  • You have strong, forceful symptoms with no weakness underneath

What's in it

Safety

  • For weak surface defenses: easy sweating and frequent colds. Not for an active cold or flu with fever and sore throat.
  • Don't self-prescribe while pregnant. Astragalus and siler need a practitioner; atractylodes only under supervision.
  • Generally well tolerated at the standard patent-pill dose, with no significant side effects reported.
  • May interact with immunosuppressant medications, since astragalus can stimulate parts of the immune system.
