Eight-Flavor Rehmannia
知柏地黃丸 · zhī bǎi dì huáng wán
Six-Ingredient Rehmannia with two added cooling herbs for internal heat, night sweats, and hot flashes from yin deficiency.
What it's for
Six-Ingredient Rehmannia is the classical base for Kidney yin deficiency. This version adds anemarrhena and phellodendron — two bitter, cold herbs that clear the fire that flares when yin runs low. The result targets the full picture: the deeper dryness and depletion of Six-Ingredient, plus the active heat signs that Six-Ingredient alone doesn't address. Night sweats that soak the sheets, a steaming bone feeling, tinnitus, and dark scanty urine are the signature cluster this formula is built for.
This formula is for you if…
Night sweats that drench your clothes or sheets
waking up damp, or sweating heavily without exertion — especially at night or late afternoon
Internal heat or a steaming sensation in your bones
a deep heat you can feel from the inside, not a surface warmth — sometimes worse in the late afternoon
Hot flashes with afternoon warmth that isn't a fever
a flushing or heat wave that rises without warning, often in the afternoon or at rest
Best fit if you have night sweats or internal heat plus at least one other sign. If you have yin deficiency without active heat, Six-Ingredient Rehmannia may suit you better.
You might also notice
- Tinnitus or ringing in the ears that gets worse when tired
- Dry mouth with a preference for small sips rather than large gulps
- Dark, scanty, or yellow urine
- Low back soreness that's dull rather than sharp
- Red tongue with little or no coating, rapid pulse
Not your match if…
- You have loose stools or digestive weakness (too cold for this formula)
- Your sweating is from exertion or anxiety, not from internal heat
- You run cold overall and are sensitive to cold weather
- You have no heat signs at all — only fatigue and dryness

Safety
- Designed for yin deficiency with flaring heat. Not appropriate for simple yin deficiency without the active heat signs — if you have no night sweats or flushing, Six-Ingredient Rehmannia may fit better.
- Anemarrhena and phellodendron are both bitter and cold. Avoid if you have loose stools, poor appetite, or a cold constitution.
